Is your website doing well?
Making sure your website achieves your business goals
How do you know that your new website is really doing the job you wanted it to do? Are you getting more orders? Is your phone ringing more than it used to? Are you receiving email requests for the services and products you offer? These are the obvious ways of monitoring the success of your website and justifying the money you've spent on getting it right. Right?
For some business owners a great looking website is their 'window on the world', a shop front if you like, and of course, your online presence. Without a website many businesses - Amazon, Ebay, Facebook, are best examples - simply wouldn't exist.
But what if your phone isn't ringing and your products are sitting on the shelves and your services are not being used. As your website designer and SEO specialist Elizabeth is able to give you some insight into why this might be. She can and will want to help.
Elizabeth does this by carrying out the following:
Checking that your current business goals still match the goals you had when the website was commissioned and completed. These goals will have been included in the website proposal.
Finding out if you've introduced new products or services that need to be included in the SEO.
Ask if you still have the same target market (client profile).
Check that your Geo-target is correct, i.e. the geographical reach you want your business website to successfully achieve to meet your goals.
Asking about your incoming link network, e.g. web directories, blogs, news items and other websites that advertise or feature your work (paid for or free).
The next step she will take is to fine-tune your SEO. As a client there will be no charge for this if your goals, products and services, target audience and geographical reach haven't changed since the site was commissioned.
If you have new products and services or now want to reach a new target market or a geographically wider audience then there will be a fee for this which will be agreed at the outset.

Understanding your web statistics could spark new business ideas!
ELIZABETH HAS TAKEN time to research the latest statistics service software to use on the websites she designs and develops. When she came across Dublin based Statcounter.com she decided to include their service as an integral part of the website hosting service she provides to her clients. Collecting data for analytical purposes from the users of your website means that website owners must have two important features:
1. A COOKIES POLICY is a document that informs users about how a website uses cookies and what types of cookies are used. To be legally compliant the cookies policy needs to be clear, concise, easily accessible and easy to understand. The policy should be available in all the languages in which the service is provided. A cookie policy helps protect user privacy and makes sure that the website complies with the laws that protect a users' online privacy.
2. A CLEARLY VISIBLE COOKIE BANNER to alert website users that the site they are on uses cookies (analytics software). This must give users the option to accept or decline the use of statistical analysis - even if no personal data is being collected (as in the case of this website).
When do you need to have a Cookies policy?
A website needs a cookie policy if it uses cookies to collect user data, such as personal information, and most major data privacy laws require it. This includes the GDPR. A cookie policy explains to users how the website uses cookies, what types of cookies are used, and how users can manage their cookie preferences. It also helps fulfill legal requirements and provides transparency to visitors.
Note: When a client declines the request to use Cookies they can still access everything on your site - it's just that their visit isn't being counted and no activity data is being collected.
